The Steel Dynamics - Roanoke Bar Division (RBD) is engaged in the scrap processing, manufacturing, and marketing of merchant steel products and semi-finished billets. RBD is a state-of-the-art mini steel mill located in Roanoke, Virginia. Founded in 1955 and acquired by SDI in 2006, this facility melts scrap steel in an electric arc furnace (EAF) and continuously casts the molten steel into billets. These billets are rolled into merchant steel products consisting of angles, rounds, flats, and channels in addition to reinforcing steel bar (rebar) products. RBD markets its products to steel service centers, fabricators, and original equipment manufacturers.
Our excess steel billet production is sold to mills without sufficient melting capabilities, including our Steel of West Virgina facility. We also sell angles to New Millennium, SDI’s steel joist and deck fabrication operations.
The Roanoke Bar Division uses mini-mill technology to produce a broad range of standard carbon-steel merchant bar products in a variety of shapes and sizes, along with steel billets for the manufacture of rolled steel and in forging steel parts.
Merchant bars are used primarily in light commercial construction and steel joist manufacturing. They are also used in the fabrication of industrial and commercial equipment and by OEM customers in manufacturing a wide variety of products, including utility trailers, agricultural equipment and implements, material-handling equipment, and specialized transportation and manufacturing equipment.
Our reliability and dedication to maintaining a consistent rolling schedule allow for the utmost confidence to help you meet ever-changing customer and project timelines.
SDI has an extensive network of truck carriers and a dedicated fleet of rail cars to ensure consistent delivery to your location. We are serviced by Norfolk Southern Railroad.
Steel Dynamics is committed to providing the best steel products and services to our customers in construction, manufacturing, transportation, energy, and various other end markets.
